Docs for "Attack of the Green Slimey Space Scum", By Don Christie ----------------------------------------------------------------- Much Thanks to Shawn Hargreaves for his excellent Allegro Library and D. J. Delorie for the DJGPP "C" language. Attack of the Green Slimey Space Scum is Freeware. The source code is included, and the graphics are easily available as PCX picture files. Make sure to read all of the DOCS! * Use the right & left arrow keys or joystick left/right to move your ship. * Press the space bar or joystick button 1 to fire normal missiles. Press button 2 on the joystick or joystick up(with no buttons pushed) to fire mega missiles. * When using the keyboard press the X key to fire mega missiles. You start off with 150 mega missiles and they can grow to 300. Just touch the green falling missile box with your ship to get more mega missiles. Mega missiles increase slowly during normal game play. Hint: Hold down the space bar to fire continuously and tap the X key to fire mega missiles only when needed. Mega missiles fire a volley of more missiles and a faster fire rate than regular missiles. You will want to have a good store of mega missiles in the higher levels of the game. Mega missiles will come down more often in the higher levels of the game. * Use the left Alt key to turn on your shields(use sparingly). Your shields start out at 100% and drop fast as you use them. Just touch the falling shields with your ship to increase your shields, 100% is max. Your Shields grow slowly during normal game play. Shields stop enemy ships and enemy missiles from destroying your ship. Try to stay above 50 % Shields in the higher levels you will need them. The Shields will come down more often in the higher levels of the game. * Shooting enemies closer to the bottom of the screen gives more points. 1 point : Top of screen 2 points: Middle of screen 3 points: Lower part of screen * !!! It takes 2 hits to kill an enemy! So your first hit will be absorbed into the enemy before you kill him with the 2nd hit. * You get an extra life every 400 points up to a max of 10 lives. * Use the Left Alt+R keys to Restart the Game during play. * Use the Esc key to Quit. * Use P to Pause the game, press P again to move in slow motion. Press any other key to continue the game. * Use the A key to alter the game speed in the opening menu to slow down or speed up the game, 50 is fastest. Use approx 44-45 on a 100 megahertz Pentium. Use 50 on a 90 megahertz. The faster your computer the lower this number should be. * Just copy all of the files on the diskette or the Zip file into a directory such as C:\GAME and then ( Unzip if necessary by typing PKUNZIP GRENSLIM ) and then type GRENSLIM and press Enter to start the game. Press <S> on the main menu to start the game after you have chosen your options or just press <S> with the options as they are to play a 'normal' game. * On the main menu you can change a lot of the game parameters such as turning enemy missiles ON/OFF, having 10 enemies always on, and so forth, just press the appropriate key to change the values. Experiment with this and have fun. Enemies To Go on the main menu means how many enemies there are to kill to get to the next level, this will grow each level by 5, but you can choose how many to kill to start the game, beginning at the first level. The range for Enemies To Go is 15 - 65. Enemies to go can grow to a maximum of 120 during the game, as 5 are added each new level. Hint: Turn off the enemy missiles and slow down the game a little for a kiddie game. Turn 10 Enemies Always on and choose a Fast Game Start with the Enemy Missiles On, and choose 3 Lives for a Pro game. * You won't see the Green Slimey Space Scum unless you can reach level 12! Attention was put in the game on the gradual increase of the enemies speed and change of enemy movement every level. If you reach level 13 you can see the Stealth Fighters (hopefully before it's too late!). If you have DJGPP and Allegro and want to compile the game use the GS.bat file. as the source code grenslim.c is provided along with all of the .wav and .pcx files necessary for the game. Go ahead and use any of the *.PCX files for your games if you want to, just maybe give a little credit my way for all of the hours I spent drawing the graphics and tweeking the game code. Also if you want to put this game on your Web Page as a download, go right ahead. Thanks alot and have fun shooting those Green Slimey Space Scum! Don Christie Tampa, Fl.
