              drawer

Kurzbeschreibung: ReAction-Einstellungsprogramm fuer den Yamagi-Quake-II-Port

DESCRIPTION

YQuake2GUI is a small, standalone ReAction settings editor for the
AmigaOS4/Mesa port of Yamagi Quake II 6.00. Instead of hand-editing
config.cfg or remembering console commands, it gives you a normal
Amiga GUI - with tabs for Graphics, Audio, Controls and Gameplay - to
change the engine's settings and start the game.

It does not replace or modify the engine itself; it only edits
Yamagi Quake II's own config.cfg and adds a couple of convenience
features around launching it.

Ported from QuakeSpasmGUI (same author, same architecture); see that
tool's own documentation for background on the underlying ReAction
GUI design.

FEATURES

- Four tabs, over 85 Yamagi Quake II cvars in total:

Graphics - resolution (preset or custom width/height), fullscreen,
VSync, forced GPU sync (gl_finish), Hor+ widescreen FOV
correction, extended draw distance (gl_farsee), gamma/
intensity, texture filter, texture alpha/solid mode,
              anisotropic filtering, MSAA, lightmap modulation,
              overbright bits, multitexture combine/enable, paletted
              textures, point-sprite particles, retexturing pack
support, blob shadows (+ stencil variant), stereo 3D
              (separation/convergence/anaglyph colours), client and
render max FPS, async client, FPS counter, console/HUD/
              menu scale.

Audio - sound volume, sample rate, mix-ahead buffer, 8-bit
sound loading, underwater sound filter (+ high-freq.
              gain).

Controls - mouse sensitivity, pitch magnitude/invert, mouse
              filtering, freelook/lookspring/lookstrafe, always run,
exponential mouse acceleration, raw input driver, mouse
grab mode, windowed-mode mouse grab, handedness of the
              view weapon.

Gameplay - crosshair (+ 3D crosshair and glow, scale), field of
view, view/HUD size, other players' weapon models, own
weapon model display, empty-weapon selection, player
              name/skin/gender (+ auto-detect), server hostname, network
rate, message verbosity, console logfile, download
              permissions (maps/models/skins/sounds), particle size
              and distance attenuation.

- All settings are read from and written back to Yamagi Quake II's
own baseq2/config.cfg, using the same "set <name> "<value>""
format the engine's own config writer produces. Only the cvars
this GUI knows about are touched - key bindings, aliases, and any
other lines in config.cfg (including the al_* / ogg_* cvars, which
are inactive in this particular build) are left completely
  untouched.

- A "Launch" tab with Yamagi Quake II-specific command-line switches
(-datadir), the +set game and +exec startup conveniences, and a
free-form field for any other command-line arguments - plus
"Save & Launch" and "Launch Only" buttons to start YQuake2 directly
  from the GUI.

- Mouseover help bubbles explaining every setting.

INSTALLATION

1. Copy YQuake2GUI into the SAME drawer as your YQuake2 executable
(the one containing "YQuake2" and the "baseq2" drawer with the
   pak-files). YQuake2GUI locates both config.cfg and the YQuake2
executable relative to its own program directory, so it will not
   work if placed anywhere else.
2. Double-click YQuake2GUI, or start it from Shell.
3. Change whatever you like across the four settings tabs, then
click "Save", or "Save & Launch" on the Launch panel to save and
   start YQuake2 in one step.

REQUIREMENTS

- AmigaOS 4.1 (reaction.library, part of the OS).
- The Yamagi Quake II 6.00 AmigaOS4/Mesa port, installed in the same
  drawer.

CONFIGURATION FILES

- PROGDIR:baseq2/config.cfg - Yamagi Quake II's own settings file.
                              Only the cvars listed above are managed;
if the file doesn't exist yet, it is
created with sensible defaults on first
                              Save.
- PROGDIR:YQuake2GUI.prefs - GUI-only launch switches (-datadir,
                              +set game, +exec, extra arguments).
                              These are pure command-line/startup
switches, not Quake cvars, so they are
                              kept separately from config.cfg.

CHANGELOG

1.1 (18.09.2026)
- Removed a leftover debug status line (IDOS->Printf "YQuake2GUI:
launching -> ...") that was still printed on every game start.
Unlike the startup-time console suppression (still intact and
unchanged), this particular line bypassed it whenever the GUI was
started from a Shell, filling that Shell with a status line on
every single launch - now fully removed, no functional change to
  launching itself.

1.0 (16.09.2026)
- Initial release.
- Ported from QuakeSpasmGUI to Yamagi Quake II 6.00: engine-specific
paths, cvar set/tab layout, and the "set <name> "<value>"" config
line format this engine's own writer uses.
- Launch tab rebuilt around YQuake2's actual command line (-datadir,
  +set game, +exec) instead of QuakeSpasm's
  switches, which don't exist here.
- All ReAction/window-refresh/console-suppression fixes from
QuakeSpasmGUI 1.2 carried over unchanged (no more Workbench/Shell
console window popping up on startup or launch, correct redraw on
tab switch and resize, mouseover help bubbles).
- Added the gl_farsee cvar (extended draw distance), which was
missing from the initial cvar table.
- Checked against yquake2_600_os4_build_v6_mesa_hunkfix.sh: this
build has WITH_OPENAL=no hardcoded, so the s_openal/s_openal_maxgain
gadgets are commented out in the source (not compiled into the
engine at all, so a gadget for them would do nothing).
- Removed the -portable and -cfgdir launch switches: this build never
sets HOME:, so config/saves already land next to the executable
without -portable, and there is no HOME-based user directory for
-cfgdir to pick a named subfolder of - both were dead weight on
  this platform.

KNOWN ISSUES

- This is an early release; if a cvar you rely on isn't covered
yet, it is left completely alone in config.cfg (nothing is deleted
or overwritten) - please report it so it can be added.
- The al_* (OpenAL) and ogg_* (OGG/Vorbis) cvars are intentionally
not managed, since this build has neither OpenAL nor OGG/Vorbis
  support compiled in (yquake2_600_os4_build_v6_mesa_hunkfix.sh has
WITH_OPENAL=no and WITH_OGG=no, hardcoded); they are left untouched
in config.cfg like any other unknown line. For the same reason,
s_openal/s_openal_maxgain are commented out in the source rather
than shown as gadgets - this build has no OpenAL backend compiled
in at all, so those cvars aren't even registered by the engine.
