Wennermark ************ ********************************************************* INTRODUCTION ============ BE Fighters is a fighting game with 'real' digitized actors. The original graphics were done about 12 years ago when I was on boarding school on Bernstorffsminde Efterskole in my home country Denmark. It has now been revived using the great program Hollywood 4 for my Amiga computer. Currently there are four versions of this game available: Windows (all versions), Mac OS X (Tiger) PPC, Mac OS X Intel and Amiga OS 4. You will need to have the version that matches your system in order to play the game. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS =================== All systems: NEW: From version 1.1 the ridiculous memory requirements have been reduced with 50-75%, so it should now be possible to play at least some combinations of players with "only" 256 megabytes of RAM. :-) For the "low memory" people: "Alf" uses a lot of RAM, so don't be surprised, if he won't load. Also, choosing the same character twice saves a lot of RAM, because only one "instance" is loaded at a time. DISCLAIMER ========== THIS PROGRAM IS PROVIDED "AS IS"! THE STORY ========= The evil teachers are mending a secret plot that will trap the poor students for eternity on the school premises, never allowing them to go home for weekends to go to parties, drink beer and see members of the opposite sex after 10 PM. 5 brave students are standing up for the rights of themselves and their fellow students, challenging the evil teachers to duels that will decide the fate of the school. CONTROLS ======== Because I don't have anymore time to work on this project, only two player mode is available. Sorry! If anyone rrreally needs a one player story mode, they can send me 2000 euro, and I'll gladly skip all my duties to make it happen ;-) Player 1: --------- left : z right: c up : s down : x punch: TAB kick : q Player 2: --------- up, down, left, right : the cursor keys punch: , (comma) kick : . (punctuation) Beware, that because of a bug in Hollywood, if you accidentally hit CTRL, SHIFT or CAPS LOCK, then it is going to mess up your controls. Also, on some systems, the controls of one player can sometimes block the controls of the other player. There is absolutely nothing I can do about this, sorry! Joystick/pad control is implemented, but unfortunately not supported by Hollywood yet. THE CHARACTERS ============== Niels: ------ The most vile and brutal of all the teachers. He forces his students to have swimming lessons every morning at 8 AM, and because he never sleeps, he always knows if you are awake at night chasing girls in the dorms. Moves: down, punch = uppercut of death forw, backw, punch = grab'n'crunch backw, forw, kick = superpunch Gitte: ------ Little as she may seem, Gitte is actually a real ninja! She was trained by the great Fut Fut Zhing before she eventually turned to the dark side. Whatch out! She has many evil tricks in her bag! Moves: back, forw, kick = play some music! forw, back, punch = ping! Alfkil: ------- This is actually me... Moves: back-forw-kick = longbow forw-forw-punch = slam you! forw-down-kick = backflip Skummer: -------- He was wounded during a gymnastic show (true story...), but still he is strong enough to fight for freedom. Moves: back-forw-punch = come'ere! forw-back-kick = crotch slam Rossen: ------- Speedy little s¯ren has a few tricks! Moves: back-forw-kick = boing-boing forw-back-punch = the racket T¯sen: ------ Not even the entire Czech police force can keep this man down! ;-) Moves: back-forw-kick = venom! forw-back-punch = slam-slam! Klitgaard: ---------- He normally lives in the ocean down in Southern Jutland, but when he heard the cries for help from the students, he went on land to fight for justice. Moves: - - THANKS TO: ========== My mother for housing me, feeding me, providing me with electricity and internet access for my computer and being thoughtfull and patient (almost) all the time! Everyone involved in the process of the making, the actors and everyone else who helped out! The playtesters (as many as you are)! J¯rgen Back-Olsen for lending us his, back then, rreally expensive digital camera for the production! Hans Jakob for being a great roommate! ;-) Andreas Falkenhahn and Airsoft Software for the great Hollywood 4 package! Acube Systems and Hyperion Entertainment for keeping the Amiga platform alive! Berstorffsminde Efterskole, all the teachers and all the students of 97/98 for a great year at the school! IN MEMORIAM =========== On the 19th December 2009 former BE teacher Fritz N¯rby-Odgaard died in a tragic accident when he was on a trip to USA with his familiy. Fritz was a great person and a dedicated teacher, and his loss will be greatly mourned. R.I.P. THE FUTURE ========== There are many things, that could be improved on this game... Certain sound effects are missing, lots of moves were not yet implemented, missing one player story mode etc. etc. but I simply don't have the time to do any more work on this game for now. For this limited but enjoyable version, I already spent *a lot* of time and energy, so if you like the game, send me a few friendly lines in an email, and I'll consider that the reward for my work ;-) Best, Alfkil ( alfkil()gmail.com ) Version history: Version 1.1: (All versions) - Switched the whole in game gfx engine to use layers instead of sprites. By doing this I was able to reduce the memory requirements from almost 1 GB (!) down to around 256 MB. Some combinations of players will only work on 300 BM and above, especially the "alf" character uses more memory than the rest. Version 1.01: (Only Amiga OS 4 version) - I accidentally messed up my own character trying to fix the memory problem before uploading the first version to os4depot. Sorry about that!
