Amiga Neat C++ Framework.

What is this “Neat framework” all about?

Back in the 80’s and 90’s I loved to play, program and fool around with
several Amiga’s (500/1000/2000). It was a lot of fun, not only because of the
Amiga itself, but also because of the social events, copy parties and so on. I
think everybody ever owned an Amiga will remember these fantastic times.

It seems to me since the release of the first SAM’s (of which I own one), this
time is coming all back to me now. I play around with the OS, try to do some
programming, and it all comes back bit by bit. And it makes FUN!

Today, the Amiga X1000 specs were released, and I was feeling like a kid again.
After reading the specifications, I have to admit, I was really impressed.

This “new Amiga computer” gave me faith to let the Neat Framework’s
birthday be the same as the new Amiga X1000 computer.

The idea of the C++ Amiga Neat framework was born in december of 2008, with one
main goal: create the ability to write ROCK SOLID code on Amiga, with all
features of the C++ language, wrapping all Kernel API’s, and delivering you a
lot of helper classes to make your life more comfortable. I have to admit, the
real inspiration came a long time before we got our hands on a SAM. Inspiration
was mainly taken from the QT Framework, which helped me quite a lot in
programming several tools for Linux boxes. I want to help you also to get things
going, with something comparable to QT: Amiga NEAT!

And here we are now. After more then a year of planning, discussing, and already
writing some code, it all starts now here, on the birthday of the new Amiga
X1000: The NEAT C++ Framework is born!

I hope working with our Framework in the future will inspire you to make plenty
of software for the Amiga, because software will make this machine a real
alternative in our IT world dominated by M$ and Apple!

As we are only 2 full-time programmers, and we create Neat in our free time,
please be patient for new classes and functions. Writing a Framework is a huge
project. Everytime we finish a Class, we will immediately publish the new docs
(doxygen created documentation) on this page. You will also be able to directly
download the framework from os4depot.net (the download link is here at the right
side under “Downloads”). Just click on the download link, and you will
receive the headers and binaries, so you can start immediatly with playing
around.

Enjoy the new Amiga X1000 and the new Neat Framework!
