name: Amelinium description: Web browser with JS + HTML mail client version: 1.5.7 author: Pawel Nowak (Juen/APX+NAH+R3D) submitter: Samir Hawamdeh url: http://juen.in donateurl: https://juen.in/support/ category: network/browser replaces: network/browser/amelinium.lha requirements: AmigaOS 4.x and AmiSSL 5.x license: Other minosversion: 4.0 texttype: Plain text distribute: yes fileid: 14217 hend: Amelinium 1.5.7 - Web browser AND mail client for classic Amiga =============================================================== Support me: http://juen.in/support Always new version here: http://juen.in A browser AND a mail client. The archive holds two programs that share one rendering engine, so a message with HTML and CSS looks the same in your inbox as a page does in the browser: Amelinium - the web browser Emalinium - the mail client (POP3 / IMAP / SMTP). It is not a plain-text reader: a message is laid out by the SAME engine as a web page. Requirements: - bsdsocket.library v4+ (works with IMPBOX bsdsocket.library!) - AmiSSL v5 for HTTPS support (without that still http:// sites works fine). On a 68020 or better you can instead install the "crypto" plugin from the Plugins page - HTTPS then works with no AmiSSL installed. - On AROS you need NEITHER of the two: the AROS builds carry their own TCP through the system and TLS 1.2 / 1.3 built into the executable, so HTTPS works with nothing else installed. - On AmigaOS 4 (PowerPC) it is the same as on 68k: bsdsocket from the system and AmiSSL v5 for HTTPS. - On a PPC card in a classic Amiga (Blizzard PPC / CyberStorm PPC under OS 3.x) the PowerUP (_PUP) and WarpOS (_WOS) builds carry their own TLS 1.2 / 1.3, like the AROS ones, so HTTPS needs no AmiSSL. The PowerUP builds set up their own stack. The WarpOS builds cannot, and need a BIGGER STACK than the shell gives by default: stack 600000 (from Shell, once per shell) stack=600000 (in the icon's Tool Types, for Workbench) The icons that come with the WarpOS builds already have this stack set. With less than 256 KB a WarpOS build says so and exits instead of stopping halfway through a deep page. The AROS builds (all four: i386, i386 ABI v0, x86_64 and aarch64) need NO extra library at all - not AmiSSL, and nothing to copy into LIBS:. Only the AROS system itself and its bsdsocket.library. Their TLS (1.2 and 1.3) is BUILT INTO the executable, so the download is one file and there is no library drawer to install. Why: AmiSSL has no AROS release at all. What ships for Amiga is m68k HUNK code, and an AROS system loads ELF - so the choice was a built-in TLS or no https at all on that machine. Third-party code in the AROS and PPC-card builds: Mbed TLS 3.6.7 (https://www.trustedfirmware.org/projects/mbed-tls/) is compiled into the AROS, PowerUP (_PUP) and WarpOS (_WOS) executables, unmodified. It is dual-licensed Apache-2.0 OR GPL-2.0-or-later - you may take it under either. The full text is in mbedtls-LICENSE.txt next to this readme. The 68k and AmigaOS 4 builds do not contain it; they use AmiSSL. The optional "crypto" plugin for 68k (68020 or better) carries the same Mbed TLS, unmodified, for Amigas without AmiSSL. !! HTTPS is encrypted but the server's CERTIFICATE IS NOT VERIFIED - i do not check who is on the other end. Treat it as protection against passive eavesdropping, not against an attacker who can redirect your traffic. The same applies to Emalinium's mail passwords. Builds: - Amelinium - 68000 (works on all Amigas, slowest) - Amelinium_020 - 68020+ - Amelinium_040 - 68040 WITH FPU (not 68EC040/68LC040) - Amelinium_060 - 68060 WITH FPU, fastest (not 68EC060/68LC060) - Amelinium_low - AmigaOS 1.3 (Kickstart 34+). No images, no downloads and NO MENU BAR - so no settings, bookmarks, tabs or About. - Amelinium_020_JS - 68020+ with built-in JavaScript - Amelinium_040_JS - 68040 WITH FPU, with built-in JavaScript - Amelinium_060_JS - 68060 WITH FPU, with built-in JavaScript - Emalinium - the mail client (any 68020+) The 040 and 060 builds use the maths coprocessor, so they need a full 68040 or 68060. On a 68EC040, 68LC040, 68EC060 or 68LC060 - the versions sold without a coprocessor - use Amelinium_020 or Amelinium_020_JS, which never use one. This only changes how fast JavaScript runs; page layout uses no floating point at all. Like any 68040/68060 program, they also need the CPU's own 68040.library or 68060.library in LIBS: - it supplies the instructions the chip leaves to software. - Amelinium_AROS_i386 - AROS on i386 (32-bit x86 PC), with JavaScript - Amelinium_AROS_x86_64 - AROS on x86_64 (64-bit PC, ABI v11), with JavaScript - Amelinium_AROS_aarch64 - AROS on 64-bit ARM (Raspberry Pi 3/4/5), with JavaScript - Amelinium_AROS_i386_v0 - AROS ABI v0 on i386 - the classic 32-bit line from axrt.org, with JavaScript. ABI v0 and ABI v1 are DIFFERENT systems: take the file that matches the AROS you installed. - Emalinium_AROS_i386 - the mail client on AROS i386 (ABI v1) - Emalinium_AROS_x86_64 - the mail client on AROS x86_64 (ABI v11) - Emalinium_AROS_aarch64 - the mail client on AROS 64-bit ARM - Emalinium_AROS_i386_v0 - the mail client on AROS ABI v0 (i386) - Amelinium_OS4 - AmigaOS 4.x on PowerPC - Emalinium_OS4 - the mail client on AmigaOS 4.x (PowerPC) - Amelinium_PUP - PowerUP: a PPC card in a classic Amiga (Blizzard PPC / CyberStorm PPC under OS 3.x). With JavaScript and HTTPS. Needs no AmiSSL - TLS is built in. - Emalinium_PUP - the mail client on the same PowerUP cards - Amelinium_MOS - MorphOS (PowerPC), with JavaScript and HTTPS. Needs no AmiSSL - TLS is built in. A young target, so it may not be perfect yet. - Emalinium_MOS - the mail client on MorphOS - Amelinium_WOS - WarpOS on the same PPC cards (Blizzard PPC / CyberStorm PPC under OS 3.x). With JavaScript and HTTPS. Needs no AmiSSL - TLS is built in. A young target, so it may not be perfect yet. - Emalinium_WOS - the mail client on WarpOS Known issues: - JavaScript: in the _JS builds. DOM scripting works, and so do jQuery, Prototype, script.aculo.us and Lightbox - including a jQuery packed with the Dean Edwards packer. Very heavy applications (youtube.com, the Cloudflare "checking your browser" page) load but can take minutes, and the Cloudflare check does not complete yet. A page whose scripts do a great deal of work will be slow: the interpreter is not fast, and that is the honest limit. - : scripts can draw on it (shapes, lines, text, gradients, shadows, pictures) and read its pixels back, but the canvas itself is not shown on the page yet - its space stays empty. - rotate() / skew() / matrix() are parsed but not drawn (translate() and scale() are) - Some pages may still render incorrectly - please report them - Slow on 68000, usable on 68030+ (faster from cache) If the browser will not start after an update: The update keeps the previous program next to it as .old, so rename that back over and you are running the old version again. Up to 1.1.1 an update download that stalled could be installed even though it was incomplete, which leaves a file the system cannot load; from 1.1.2 the download is checked and a broken one is refused. Command line: Amelinium [URL] [options] -screen WxH[xD] open an own screen of that size, skipping the mode requester - e.g. `-screen 1024x768x24` on an RTG card or `-screen 1280x512` on AGA. Picks the deepest mode the size offers when D is left out. This is the quickest way to a usable window on a big screen. -aga 640x512 8-bitplane PAL screen, no requester -wb open on the Workbench screen -js run page scripts everywhere, ignoring the per-site list. By default scripts are OFF until you allow a site, because one advertising bundle can exhaust the machine's memory. -ttf use TrueType fonts, downloading them first if they are not in PROGDIR:ttfonts yet. Same as the `ttf` toolbar button, but usable from a script or an icon. -proxy-host H -proxy-port P send everything through an HTTP proxy The same settings are available from the icon's Tool Types: URL, PROXYHOST, PROXYPORT, AGA, WB. Keyboard shortcuts: - Up/Down - scroll - Shift+Up/Down - page scroll (a few lines) - Space - page down (most of the visible area) - Backspace - page up - PageUp/PageDown - page up / down (PC-style keyboards) - Home/End - top / bottom of page - Ctrl+Up/Down - top / bottom of page (keyboards without Home/End, A600) - Amiga = / - - zoom in / out (also on the Page menu) - Esc - stop loading / stop a runaway script / close - F5 - reload - Amiga-C/X/V - copy / cut / paste: the form field you are typing in, the text you selected on the page, or the URL bar - Amiga-T / W - new tab / close tab (also on the Tabs menu) - Ctrl+click - open link in a background tab - Middle-click - open link in a background tab (3-button mouse) - Shift+click - open link in a new tab and go there - Amiga-B / F - back / forward - Amiga-H - home page - Amiga-L - jump to the address bar (selects what is there, so you can just type the next address) - Amiga-G - go to the address in the bar - Amiga-S - save this page - Amiga-/ - find on page - Amiga-. - random page - Amiga-? - about Pictures: GIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP and ICO are decoded on the Amiga, by the browser itself. Decoded pictures are cached on disk, so a second visit paints them without decoding again. !! SVG, WebP and AVIF FILES cannot be decoded here - there is no code on this machine that reads them. (An written directly into the page is different: Amelinium draws that itself and nothing leaves the machine.) Those files go out to a PUBLIC RASTERISER (images.weserv.nl), which converts them to PNG and sends that back. The address of the picture therefore leaves your machine and reaches a third party, which is worth knowing: it is the price of seeing an icon set that a modern site ships as SVG. Everything else is fetched straight from the site. Turning images off in the Settings menu stops both. Video: In the 040 and 060 builds and in the AROS, AmigaOS 4 and PPC-card builds, a and a class on an outer element is applied; sections of one shop stayed hidden - Long words with a hyphen can wrap after the hyphen when a box is sized to its content, as in other browsers; a login panel was too wide - Borders thicker than 127 pixels keep their width; arrow and triangle shapes drawn with borders came out narrow - Article styles of sites built with Tailwind Typography apply: images, links and headings inside such articles were unstyled - An image with a percentage width and a fixed height sizes its box from its height; logos sat in boxes far too wide - Flex items with zero basis keep their own padding when sharing space; a login form panel came out too narrow - A link or label that must not wrap moves to the next line as a whole when it does not fit, instead of sticking out of its box - Style rules of Tailwind sites that target an element only under a given page or parent (class names with a dot inside brackets) apply; a gap stayed above the content of one page - Text sizes on sites built with Tailwind 4 follow the page's base size when it is set inside a cascade layer; text and spacing came out much too large - Pages with TrueType fonts lay out faster: letters and letter pairs are looked up in the font once instead of on every measurement, and on machines with enough memory many more measured words are kept - Opening on a Workbench without a graphics card shows the right colours straight away; pages came out in the Workbench background colour and buttons white until the screen was switched - A form placed between table rows no longer widens the table; the right column on one site came out far too wide - Old pages without a modern document type: lines whose text is all in small font tags, empty lines made with "
" and lines ending in "
" are as low as in other browsers instead of taller, and forms keep the space below them that those pages expect - Tables with more than 512 rows show every row; long directory listings stopped part way down - Font sizes given in points keep their fraction, and sizes in "em" from a style sheet follow a font size set on the element itself; a side column on one site came out narrower - Text set in Verdana has the line height of Verdana, so pages written in it are no longer shorter than in other browsers - Sizes in "rem" inside a frame follow the frame's own page instead of the page around it - Positions written with max(), min() or clamp() that mix a percentage and pixels are placed correctly; a picture on one site sat far too high - A line holding larger inline text makes room for it even when that part only wraps smaller text, so lines are no longer squeezed together - Downloaded and saved files get readable names: "%20" and other escape codes in the address become spaces and letters, national letters are converted to the system character set, and a name sent by the server in its international form is used - Style rules that exclude elements by several long class names further up the page apply; sub-menu arrows showed on every item of one menu - When a server refuses the connection, the error page says so instead of reporting a timeout or a failed secure handshake 1.5.4 - Emalinium: updating from inside the program saves the new version again when it was started from its icon or has a name other than "Emalinium" (such as Emalinium_OS4); the download was thrown away and the old version asked for the update again. If your Emalinium 1.5.3 keeps asking, replace it by hand once with the file from this archive - updates work by themselves from then on 1.5.3 - Links and pictures written as "https:host/file" (without the two slashes) or with backslashes are opened from the network; some sites showed a requester asking to insert a volume "HTTPS:" - Tables: a column that only exists because a cell spans into it no longer takes up width, so headers and bars spanning the table reach its full width (90minut.pl) - Tables: a cell spanning several columns no longer makes the table wider than in other browsers by the spacing between those columns - Lines of text whose line height is a fraction of a pixel are spaced as in other browsers instead of each line being rounded up, so long paragraphs no longer end lower (ktadd.weebly.com) - JavaScript: the length of an array behaves as in other browsers - it can no longer be deleted or made configurable, shortening it with Object.defineProperty removes the elements past the new length, and a read-only length is respected by push, pop and assignments - Video and sound playback, download speed and other timings no longer go wrong when the clock passes midnight 1.5.2 - Turning the "fonts" plugin off or on during a session switches emoji between colour and plain without restarting the browser - All plugins can be installed and used together: with every plugin installed, the last one to start (often "adblock") refused with "too many plugins" - Turning a plugin on or off on the Plugins page keeps the page where it was instead of jumping back to the top - Turning the "reader" plugin on or off on the Plugins page shows or hides the "rd" button straight away, without restarting the browser - Pages with JavaScript start faster: the browser prepares its own built-in compatibility scripts once per session instead of on every page, and runs a large part of them as native code - Sites whose pages share the same scripts (such as jQuery on every page) load faster from the second page on: the browser keeps the prepared scripts for the whole session - JavaScript: Array.from() over an entries() iterator (of an array, a typed array or a Map) returned empty values instead of the pairs - With the built-in Amiga fonts (TrueType off), letters with accents and marks that are not in the Amiga character set (Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian...) are shown with their accents, drawn from the font's own accented letters, instead of as other letters - A page background image now follows its repeat and position settings (for example a stripe repeated only downwards and centred), so side columns and shadows drawn by the background line up with the page - Style rules that exclude long class names on an outer element (such as body:not(.some-long-name)) are no longer ignored - Style rules that test the position of an element with a long list of classes (such as :nth-child() on a menu item) are no longer ignored, so sub-menus of the lower menu items open in the right place - A stray closing list-item tag in a nested menu no longer moves the rest of the menu out of its list - A page background picture is kept decoded on disk like the other pictures, so going back to such a page, reloading it or revisiting it no longer decodes the picture again - much faster on slower Amigas (amigasource.com) - Progressive JPEG pictures decode faster on 68k Amigas, with exactly the same result - Page layout with the built-in Amiga fonts (TrueType off) is a little faster: the width of a word is measured once per layout pass - Emalinium: accented and national letters in message text (for example Polish, Czech or Hungarian letters) are displayed correctly, whatever character set the message was written in - Emalinium: Reply now addresses the sender's e-mail address (or the Reply-To address) instead of the sender's name, a forwarded message carries the original sender, date and subject, and replies to POP3 mail quote the original text 1.5.1 - New "crypto" plugin: HTTPS on a 68k Amiga without AmiSSL. Install it from the Plugins page; when AmiSSL is missing, secure pages, pictures and downloads go through the plugin instead (TLS 1.2 and 1.3). Needs a 68020 or better, like AmiSSL. Further connections to the same site resume the first one, so a page with many pictures does not pay the slow key exchange for each of them - aftonbladet.se shows its news feed and side column next to each other, in the widths the page asks for, with its logo, and headlines sized to the box they stand in instead of to the whole window - Boxes declared as size containers no longer stretch to fit their text, so a headline beside a picture leaves the picture its column - A style written as `.badge:is(.list .item)` applies to the item itself and no longer to the list around it (the badges on aftonbladet.se) - Text in several columns fills the first column first and keeps blocks the page marks as unbreakable in one piece - Buttons whose padding comes from long style variables get it again, and an empty element at the start of a wrapping row no longer pulls the next item up beside it - Very long pages built on a grid are no longer cut short - Pages that build their styles in scripts and attach them to the document (adopted style sheets, used by web-component design systems such as the one on seb.se) get those styles - Scripts using deep chains of classes (web components built from many mix-ins) find methods inherited from far up the chain - JavaScript: names written with letters outside plain ASCII, reserved words as imported names, and class constants that create an instance of their own class all work (Angular applications such as the one on seb.se) - `flex-flow` with only one of its two parts resets the other one, as the standard says (news teasers with a picture beside them on aftonbladet.se) - Pages that load more articles as you scroll down now do so: scrolling tells the page's scripts, and the visual viewport scripts ask for is there (engadget.com) - WarpOS: playing a video or a sound no longer stops with software error #80000004 - picture and sound play - Grid items placed in a named area and then moved with grid-column or grid-row are positioned correctly (centred menus in shop headers) - Grid rows created by named areas take their height from grid-auto-rows - Text with a negative margin before it no longer wraps onto a second line inside buttons sized to fit it (hexabyte.tn prices) - Rows of flexible columns whose widths add up exactly to the available space no longer push the last column onto a new line (well.fr footer) - Rules that exclude elements inside a given container (as used by popular CSS reset sheets) now apply, removing stray default margins (doublesens.fr) - Grid layouts no longer collapse into a single column when a CSS reset sheet clears all properties of the element - Style sheets inside template elements and embedded page components no longer restyle the whole page (gorgias.com icons) - Blocks centred with justify-items or justify-self outside of a grid are centred and sized to their content, as in other browsers (venturatravel.org) - An image limited by the page to the width of its column is no longer shrunk further by its own margins (logiciel-libre.ch) - Grid columns sized with calc() fractions get their exact share of the row instead of losing a few pixels each (eivissa.es) - Items of a single-row flex layout with a fixed height are centred vertically when the page also sets align-content (eivissa.es header) - A multi-column list with its column gap set to zero no longer gets a gap of one character width between the columns (accelrf.com) - Web fonts imported with several weights in one Google Fonts address now load every weight, and the rule after such an import is no longer lost (osteopathes.pro) - An image inside a flex layout keeps its natural width instead of being squeezed to the space left for it (icons on eivissa.es) - A line break between items of a flex or grid layout takes up one line, as in other browsers (news cards on dbz-dokkanbattle.com) - A wrapping flex container with a single row honours align-content, so a lone widget sits at the bottom or in the middle of its column when the page asks for it (elementgyms.pt footer) - Font Awesome icons drawn as SVG get the width their style sheet gives them (the rule written with svg:not(:root) was ignored) - Pictures and videos set to a flex, grid or table display stand on their own line like a block, so embedded videos fill the frame the page gives them (elementgyms.pt) - A box with a fixed aspect ratio inside a column of a flex layout grows to fit a picture sized to fill it, as in other browsers (Instagram feeds on shop pages such as ekantastudio.com showed their photos cut short) - An empty block that holds an element with its own layout context (for example a widget box with overflow hidden) no longer merges the space above it with the space below it, so sections after such a widget keep the gap the page asks for (ekantastudio.com) - WarpOS: plugins. Browser -> Plugins is in the menu, and every plugin offered for PowerUP cards installs and runs on WarpOS as well: unpacking archives, web fonts and colour emoji, WebP, SVG, AVIF and JPEG XL pictures, PDF, translation, reader view, FTP and ad blocking - Default styles of HTML elements checked against the HTML standard: italic addresses, citations, definitions and variables, menu lists, list numbering from the type attribute, link colour, table width including its border, row and group vertical alignment reaching the cells, open dialog windows framed and centred - Old HTML attributes: tables aligned left or right float, coloured and unshaded horizontal rules, captions below tables, table rules, image alignment (middle, absmiddle, bottom, absbottom, texttop) as in other browsers; the color attribute only colours font elements - New "translate" plugin: Page -> Translate page to translates the text of a page into one of 17 languages through an online service, and Page -> Show original brings it back (needs the plugin from Browser -> Plugins) - New "reader" plugin: reader view shows only the article of a page - text, headings, pictures and links - without menus, adverts and side columns; it adds an rd button to the toolbar (and Page -> Reader view), and pressing it again brings back the whole page - New "ftp" plugin: ftp:// addresses (Aminet is at ftp://ftp.aminet.net/) open in the browser - a directory is shown as a page with names, sizes and dates, and a file goes to the download manager - New "adblock" plugin: adverts and tracking scripts, images and frames are not downloaded (EasyList, fetched by the browser and refreshed weekly) and site-specific ad boxes are hidden, so pages load faster - Background gradients with colour stops given in pixels, and two gradients layered on one element, are drawn (vimm.net) - Code blocks and monospaced text on pages without any style sheet use the smaller default monospace size, as in other browsers - Dotted, dashed, double and wavy text decoration lines are drawn, and abbreviations with an explanation (abbr title) get the dotted underline other browsers show - Table rows make room for the borders of their cells, so cells in tables with borders no longer overlap each other - Text in a page font that comes in several weights no longer shows wrong letters when two of the weights are used at the same size - Boxes sized "to fit their content" in height and centred with automatic margins stand in the middle at their own height (cookie consent windows such as the one on seb.se) instead of filling the whole window - Elements moved with `transform` inside a bar pinned to the window are drawn where they belong (the hidden "skip to content" link on aftonbladet.se covered the logo) - A style that refers to a page variable which does not exist resets the property as other browsers do, instead of keeping an older value (the footer headings on seb.se, button text colours on a1k.org) - Table captions stand outside the table's frame, as wide as the table and centred, without a gap above or below them (the dates above the news on vimm.net used to sit inside the frame on the left) - Drop-down lists and text areas show their text in the colour the page gives them, so lists on dark pages are readable - Background pictures wider than their box - the side-column shading of Joomla sites such as hyperion-entertainment.com - are placed like in other browsers instead of spreading over the page text - Repeating background patterns placed at the centre or the right (dotted lines under headings and menu entries) fill their whole box instead of starting in the middle of it - Small icons given as the background of a link or label (menu bullets, the dots between the entries of a navigation bar) are drawn - A style meant only for the links of a submenu no longer takes the decoration away from the links of the main menu as well - After "Install now" the browser restarts with the same stack it was started with, so the WarpOS version started from its icon comes back instead of quitting - New "pdf" plugin: PDF documents are shown by Amelinium's own renderer instead of the JavaScript viewer - much faster, and it works in the builds without JavaScript too, plain 68000 included. Text, drawings and pictures; one page at a time with Previous, Next, a page number box, zoom and Download. Install it from the Plugins page. Encrypted PDFs that open without a password are shown as well; a PDF that asks for a password is refused with a message. Colour gradients, patterns, spot colours and soft transparency masks are drawn too, so PDFs printed from web browsers look like the original page, and so are black-and-white scanned documents stored in the fax format. Scanned books and magazines - such as the ones on archive.org, with JPEG 2000 pictures and JBIG2 text - open too. A large PDF is kept on disk while it is shown, so it no longer has to fit into memory. Blend modes and transparent groups (overlapping see-through shapes, multiply, screen and the other blending effects) are drawn as in other PDF viewers. More scanned documents open (all kinds of JBIG2 text and halftone pictures), and black-and-white scans are drawn faster. JPEG 2000 pictures with transparency or in less common layouts are shown too - Bookmarks: on tall screens a long bookmark list now continues in the next menu (B2, B3 ...) instead of the last entries going missing - depack plugin: 7z archives packed as one solid block unpack in a small amount of memory instead of needing room for everything at once, so large 7z archives no longer stop with "Not enough memory" - depack plugin: ZIP archives packed with Deflate64, BZip2 or LZMA and 7z archives packed with BZip2 or Deflate unpack too, instead of stopping with "Unsupported compression method" - fonts plugin: variable web fonts (one file for all weights, as Google Fonts serves them) show bold, light and every other weight the page asks for, instead of drawing all text in the regular weight - fonts plugin: emoji are drawn in colour (Noto Color Emoji, downloaded once), and so are colour fonts a page brings with it; without the plugin emoji stay black and white as before - Card sliders on shops and sites built with Shopify (and other pages that let a flexible row take over its parent's wrapping) stay in one row instead of being stacked into a long column - Pages with their own web fonts use the first font named in their list, as other browsers do, instead of whichever font the page declared first (whole sites used to show in a narrow display face) - images plugin: JPEG XL pictures are shown, decoded by Amelinium's own decoder - lossy and lossless, with transparency, animations (the first frame), progressive and layered pictures. On a 68k Amiga with a maths coprocessor the plugin uses it, which makes them quicker - PowerUP: videos and their sound play - the browser decodes them itself, because PowerUP cannot start a separate task for them - Emalinium: sending a message no longer crashes the computer ("suspend/reboot") when the message window closes afterwards, and the status bar says the copy was saved only when the server took it - Emalinium: long lines wrap - plain-text messages wrap to the window instead of needing the horizontal scroll bar, and the message editor breaks lines between words instead of in the middle of a word - Emalinium: text in the message window is smoothed on RTG screens with more than 256 colours, as in the browser 1.5.0 - Plugins: optional extras the browser downloads only when you ask for them, from the new Plugins page (Browser menu). The first one, "depack", offers to unpack an archive right after it is downloaded, into a drawer you choose: LHA, LZX, ZIP, 7z, RAR, gzip and tar (also .tar.gz). Encrypted and multi-volume archives are refused with a message. Plugins can be updated and turned off on the same page; until you have looked at it once, it opens as a second tab when the browser starts, and again whenever a new plugin appears. Plugins that cannot work together (one of a kind) turn each other off - New "images" plugin: WebP, SVG and AVIF pictures are decoded on your own computer instead of going through the online image proxy, so they also show when the proxy is slow or cannot be reached. While the plugin is on, the proxy setting in the Settings menu is greyed out. Install it from the Plugins page - New "fonts" plugin: pages whose web fonts come only as WOFF2 or as OpenType with PostScript outlines (.otf) show their own lettering instead of a replacement font. Install it from the Plugins page - Two buttons on the left of the lower toolbar row open the Plugins page and the download list, as far as the window is wide enough for them - When a downloaded archive is unpacked, the drawer picked last time is offered again, and a "To RAM:" button unpacks it straight to RAM: without asking for a drawer - Less time is lost redrawing the status bar while styles are worked out, which shows on slower machines on pages with many elements - Video windows on theguardian.com and similar news sites have their proper size instead of covering the whole screen and the text next to them - Going back or forward, switching tabs and the page shown after sending a form are now built exactly like a fresh visit, so they look the same as when you first opened them - Sites built with Next.js and React (bruiser.se and similar) now start instead of stopping at an error: class static blocks, optional method calls and the live list of an element's attributes work as in other browsers, scripts meant only for old browsers are skipped, script text set by a page keeps its line breaks, and pages that look for WebSocket find it (live connections themselves are not available yet) - The cache can live on another drive: Settings -> Cache drawer... picks where cached pictures, pages and style sheets go (in a drawer of their own called AmeliniumCache), and offers to delete the files left in the old one. Settings, bookmarks and the download list stay next to the program - The drop-down list of a select box opens right under the box, is at least as wide as it, and is measured with the same font it is drawn with, so long option names are shown in full; option names no longer carry stray spaces from the page source, and national letters show as letters instead of garbage - Every build comes with a Workbench icon: a globe being painted with a brush (Emalinium has an envelope on it), in colour on OS 3.5 and newer, OS4, MorphOS and AROS, and in the four Workbench colours on OS 3.0/3.1. The Kickstart 1.3 build has its own icon drawn in the Workbench 1.3 colours.
