Also seems that "load all directory even if only one file is choicen" do not works too. I.e. i just load work:asl_req.jpg , it loads, shows, then a press "Space" (i.e. to swith on the enxt image in the work: directory) and nothing happens.

Tryed version 1.5:

bugs:

1.
unpack, run, select "work:" parition. And first file is not image, and vivi says in status bar "can't open picture or not picture file", Pressing on space go through few images, and on some big one title bar is garbled by some weird characters. After that cant go through images by space and/or left/right cursor keys. But open again "Work:" directory still works.

So as far as i can see there something weird happesn.

2. sort of filename do not works again.

I,e i just open "work" and not "asl_req.jpg" shows as first file, but some "lister.jpg" (which is last one in my work directory).

good:
iconify seems works ok.

i could't reproduce freeze too, but one time i can't uniconify back after i play with programm a bit and iconify. sadly icant reproduce it now, but iassume samo's freeze can have same roots

samo: I couldn't reproduce this freeze with or without a border. Did you upload a log?

"Overflowing TSK by requests will only make him to loose interest in :)"

Well i hope not, don't be too pessimistic ! :-D

@TSK

I feel that the iconification in full screen mode isn't completely fixed yet, i did the same step by step operations that caused the problem reported in 1.3, however with 1.4 my system freeze instead !

Overflowing TSK by requests will only make him to loose interest in :) But yep, will be nice to have better thumnail support (like when it thumb mode, by keys right/lieft jump over the thumbs and by enter open them), gadget for window resizing, and zoom in/out which can be done by + and - buttons, as well as by mouse wheel if in prefs "zoom by mouse wheel" will be set (and if not, then instead swith to next images) .

But even now, its for sure one of good ones. I before use LoView, and i like it in general, but only for me was problems that it Hollywood, no RMB menus, big size of executable, some moments which can't be fixed because its hollywood, etc. And "vivi" fits into category of good apps pretty well.

@kas1e

Indeed Viivi is progressing nicely, altrough some basic feature need to be added first, for example i'm waiting for the "window resize" support (still in to-do for what i understand) and also some "Zoom IN/OUT" feature would be good to have :-)

Tested v1.4:

-- now its possible to open everything right ! There is just one single "open", and if you open directory/parition it will load first files in directory and you can then swith beetwen all of them. That one single impovement pretty massive one should to say.

-- swithcing between images by "space" works ! cool !

-- files sorted in alphaphetical order, thanks !

Now, for the small minises which still left (i.e. suggestions):

1). Imho do not need to show and trying to draw a non-images (as done in most of other modern image viewers). I mean you open directory where you have a loot of different files, from which let's say about 10% of images only. So, viewer should just skip in alphavitical order everything which is non image and switch to the next image insted.

I.e. if we have:

work:1.lha
work:aaa.zip
work:aasomeimage1.someformat
work:aasomeimage2.someformat
work:bbbb
work:bbsomeimage3.someformat
work:cccc.txt

Then when we just open "work" then firstly show right after opening work:aasomeimage1.someformat, and swithcing to next image show work:aasomeimage2.someformat and to next show work:bbsomeimage3.someformat , and loop.

It can be done internally in the programm (i.e. once image trying to be shown, firstly check if that is image and can be covered by datatypes, and only then show the info in title bar together with image itself, if not an image , then just skip).

Or at least add an option to prefs, which will mean "scan through: all files (on/off) images (on/off)"

2). When we do open of just a one single file, do not disable ability to swith to the next image in the same directory. Currently, if we have :
work:test/1.jpg
work:test/2.jpg

and open not just work:test/ , but work:test/1.jpg, then we can't swith to the 2.jpg, and we need to reopen it manually, or open just a work:test/.

That imho should be done internally, and no options for need it, as it will be just logical.

In others, seems that its almost time to replace my default image viewer on that one. Pretty small, fine and fast.

I found another issue:

If you put the program in fullscreen and then you try to iconify it (assuming you have the "border" activated on the program of course) once you deiconify it, the new screen will become empty and the Viivi's windows will be replaced on the Workbench screen instead

When you are on fullscreen the Viivi's window must stay on its fullscreen area even if you deiconify it

My mistake. It's actually possible.

>When one uses DOS library functions they usually load files from a disc in that order the files were saved. That's the way how Amiga software works

mm.. thats unlogical for image viewer. I do not know what Amiga software works like this, but all the image viewers i tryed lately on os4, works in a way as i describe (check for example LoView).

>I don't think that's possible with the GetFile gadget unfortunately. If one don't select any file then it doesn't return the path either. So it can be in file or drawer modes but not both.

It can be constructed function from scratch, based when its need it on GetFile, and when not need it, then on custom stuff. I.e. user press on open image, and it call custom fucntion, which check, if patch without file, then just scan for first available image in the directory and show it (i.e. constrcut path in the memory). And when file is choicen, then just Getfile or whatever

When one uses DOS library functions they usually load files from a disc in that order the files were saved. That's the way how Amiga software works.

And it loops to the first file after the last one was displayed.

I don't think that's possible with the GetFile gadget unfortunately. If one don't select any file then it doesn't return the path either. So it can be in file or drawer modes but not both.

Suggestions for the next versions:

- add option for "button by which switch beetwen images". So user can set there let's say "space", and by pressing on it, swith on next image, and when last one in directory found, then continue from begining.

- make one single "open" (no open file and open driver, just one open). In which : if only parition/directory was open (no file) then scan for the first available image file, and show it up. If file was open, then show that file. And in both cases, pressing on space (or any other button which sets for the swith beetwen images in prefs) will show the next image till end, and then loop from begining. If it was only file open, then when last file in directory or parition will be shown, then loop start from the first file on parition/driver, not from the selected file of course. I.e. make it all easy , user friendly and logical.

By this realisatoin, you will get rid of problem which you have when you do "open file" : now, if i only open 1 single file, i just can't swith to next images at all.

Bugreport:

And still something very wrong with showing the images when you open driver/parition: I just do right now "open driver" and open my "work:" parition. Its show me in title of viewer some txt file (which even not first one on parition, and which is not image of course), and show nothing. So its bug #1: it should't show anything except images and should start from the first image in the directory/parition.

Then, i wait 10 seconds, and press "->" button, to swith to next image. Nothing happens , title didn't changes (i assume, it tryes to swith to next, non-image file, without note user about). So i press 10 times on that "->" button, until some image show ups, but , what is strange, is that it show me "caramba.jpg" image, while there is "aslreq.jpg" file, which is first one , and should be shown as first one. So that bug#2.

In general, making one single "open" , and scan/sort/calculate all the stuff, everything can be sorted out.

Programm itself indeed nice, but that "open" bugs and all that "open file/open driver" make it a bit unlogical and hard to use :(

for the language installer:
please never install wo the SYS: device. always use the proper asigns. in that case LOCALE: as destination. SYS: should only be used for system programs.
(i'll have a look at the german translation)

If you have automatic scaling on, the window size is ignored. The scaling option could of course ghost those two from the prefs though.

If you iconify in Window mode, the window is taller than the screen when you uniconify. You can't get your pointer down far enough to resize the window. Even thought the default prefs specify an 800x600 window it opens at about 1024x1024 on my system.

Hi!
I've tryed ViVi a bit but imediately found one BIG problem...
I tryed to create thubmnails for a big dir of about 1000 pics at 10mpx and get serious problems:

- the thumb creation was REALLY slow so I tought that you havent implemented Exif thumb reading
- the thumb creation wasnt lockable or at least it wasnt lockable before my Peg2 locked...

@Tuomas

I quote some of the kas1e's considerations, also i have some others:

- In 1.2 you add a proper script to copy the catalogs but this new solution does not seems to work here, i try to install italian but even after a reboot the program still in english, so how about still with the old and secure method --> a standard and easier "catalog" folders that load any catalog from PROGDIR: ?

With this method scripts are not necessary!

- If you are in thumbnail mode and then you go in fullscreen mode, then you can't come back to the window mode anymore (the program still freezed in fullscreen), also if you are in thumb mode and then you going in fullscreen --> this should open Viivi in fullscreen but mantaining the thumb mode active, right now the thumb mode will not mantained when you go in fullscreen!

- The rotate left and rotate right buttons in GUI have an incorrect bubblehelp, currently that buttons use the same strings of the "Preview/Next" buttons instead of --> Rotate left/Rotate right ...

Just tryed latest version (1.2), and so far can't normally open a directory and just via pressing on -> and <- buttons navigate beetwen all the images which are in the current directory.

I.e. i open WORK: parition via that opendriver button : nothing loads (but by logic the first image in the paritin should loads). Then i just manually open the firt image in the work: paritin : it loads. Then i press -> for opening next image : nothing happens. I also tryed to open second image on the paritin , and after it loads trying to use <- button for jump on previous image: nothing happens as well.

Then, i just tryed to use "space" for swith beetwen images (as its in all the other image viewers) - instead of the changes beetwen images, its just change beetwen fullscreen and windows modes.

Nextly, i try to play with the rotate buttons. I choice big enough image, and trying to rotate it via "right rotate" button : it rotates, but not resizes and overlap the right border of the window.

Tryed also slideshow button: it change nothing. Just stays on one image all the time, while there is many images in the directory (i.e. in my WORK: parition).

But programm itself pretty promising. Native, small and fast, have RMB menus and co. Just some more preferencse and bug fixes.

How is full screen "broken"? I didn't notice anything wrong. But the keys to change to/from should be documented (enter and space bar).

Nice tool even if not yet completed, i have infact some report/question

- I already translate it in italian but when i start it in my language the strings will be inserted in a casual order, i fell you include an old catalog descriptor instead .. plz if so can you update it according to latest chenges so we can start translations ?

- Any time i start Viivi it open a requester instead of the program interface, would be nice to have the possibility to open the program fully and then choose an image (or a folder contained images) to open

- Main window is not resizable ?
- Full screen seems broken ..
- In prefs window i selected a default folder that contains a set of images, but once i open Viivi the requester still asking for an image, so i can only open 1 image at time ?

Well more consideration to come, it's already a nice little tool :-)

Very nice for a first release. Some bugs Ive noticed...

opening a drawer with a lot of images then going to thumbnail mode or using large thumbnails make viivi open a window bigger than the workbench screen which is not good for noobs and a program should never open a window larger than the screen it's on.

switching to full screen mode with more thumbnails than can fit in th screen results in an empty screen and the viivi window not showing.

Turning off auto resize of the window makes the pictures be shown with the wrong aspect ratio as they are scaled to FILL the window not to FIT the window.

Ome emhancement I would like to see is to be able to save a catalogue file of the thumbnails preferably in the format Picture_Overview uses as I have thumb.po catalogues for 90% of my pictures (Picture Overview my be 68k but it is the fastest thumbnail generator that I have ever used. available on aminet)
